Roman Town: The Premier Archaeology Video Game for Kids 2010. Dig It! Games. 978-0-98452-790-8. Grade 3 & Up K-5 6-8 Need a way to make Latin class more interesting or ancient history more intriguing? This video game does exactly that. Players are taken through a short introduction to the archaeological dig and their role as excavator. At the site, a town covered by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, there’s a dig with six levels. In each level, players choose tools, help uncover artifacts, and learn more about their uses with the help of ancient and modern characters. Once uncovered, artifacts are sorted and more information is given. Mini-games are unlocked as portions of a house are excavated. Quizzes at each level test learning with activities such as word seek, term match, and true-false. The game is fun and interesting, and even high schoolers and adults can enjoy it and learn from it. Currently available for Windows OS, a Mac version is coming. The game is a fun way to learn about archaeology and history at home, in class, or at the library. Recommended. NEW YORK – Dig-It! Games is pleased to announce that its award-winning educational computer game Roman Town is being sold in the store attached to the new Pompeii exhibit at Discovery Times Square.

Pompeii the Exhibit: Life and Death in the Shadow of Vesuvius opened at the Discovery Times Square museum on March 4.   The exhibit focuses on the Roman city of Pompeii which was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius 2,000 years ago in 79 AD. It features over 250 artifacts including the largest collection of body casts ever seen on display.

In Roman Town, players participate in an authentic archaeological excavation of the Roman town of Fossura, which is based on the city of Pompeii.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting new exhibit showcasing Pompeii,” said Suzi Wilczynski, the professional archaeologist and teacher who created Roman Town.  "I based Fossura on Pompeii because it is one of the most archaeologically significant sites in the world.  With this exciting pairing, exhibit-goers have the unique opportunity to view these amazing artifacts and then, through Roman Town, experience what it was like for the archaeologists who discovered Pompeii and expand their understanding of Roman life in 79AD.  Roman Town and Pompeii the Exhibit are a perfect match.”

Discovery Times Squares is located at 226 West 44th Street between Broadway & 8th Avenue.
