This is the best I’ve seen yet to get the kids attention AND be educational at the same time. I recommend this for anyone age 7 and up - perfect for those who are inquisitive and anyone who has projects on Rome!

"By creating a game based around simulating an archaeological dig, adding in a mystery to solve about what happened to this town and then magically adding children who lived back in 79 A.D. as characters in the story, "Roman Town" has found a winning combination. This is educational software kids will want to play. As they play to unearth rare finds, their parents can celebrate too for finding this hidden treasure of uncommonly good learning software."

ROMAN TOWN does a fantastic job of presenting world history in a fun and entertaining context for kids. Part simulation game, part puzzle game, part mystery -- and with a great variety of mini-game material thrown in -- this is an educational game that shouldn't bore kids for even a second.

Roman Town is a fun history lesson disguised as a computer game. Your kids will learn without realizing it and having a ton of fun. . . Madison is 7 and this game is a favorite of hers.

The game does require you to analyze and explore all the while you are having fun. It’s a great hands-on learning experience. Madison is 7, and this game is a favorite of hers. She is able to see what the ancient people left behind and how they used it. She gets to have them talk to her and tell her all about their lives. Mom even learned a few things!

I love how they weaved history right into the game, so your kids don’t even realize that they are learning.

Any child that is intrigued by lands and people from the past will be fascinated by this game. They won’t even realize the incredible information and history they are learning about and retaining due to the creative design by Dig-It! Games.”

One of the coolest features is the ability to explore the buildings of Fossura, which are littered with artifacts like coins, pottery, bones and paintings.”

The kids all had a blast [playing] Roman Town. . . They were excited every time an artifact was discovered. It became a competition among the kids to see who could find the most artifacts and remember the most facts”

My son and his buddies recently had a blast being Archaeologists and they never had to leave the house or get covered in mud.

This game is really a great way to incorporate a little history into your childs life in a fun and unique way. They boys had a great time playing the game.

My group of young "archeologists" engaged in an excavation of a house located in the Roman town of Fossura. As they played the role of archeologists, their skills in memory, analytical thinking, logic and problem solving were all tested. They all found Roman town to be intriguing, and encouraging to explore people and lands of the past, present and future.

This game provides hours of fun, that kids don't even realize that they are learning while playing this. They discover new facts and information just like real Archaeologists, logically and step-by-step, at an authentic excavation site.

Getting my kids interested in history and culture can be a challenge. But combine learning with a video game, my kids are instantly interested. That’s what Roman Town does.

The boys were ready to jump right in as soon as the game was loaded. I think they loved digging for the artifacts just as much as playing the mini-games. I even had to drag a few boys away so their parents could take them home.

I thought the game was very well set up, it has good graphics and is very interactive. I’d recommend it for kids ages 7-12, unless you child is really into archaeology, in which case they’d probably enjoy it at any age. I think this game is going to make a great, fun addition to my son’s Latin studies.

Dig-It! Games have created a brilliant new computer game called Roman Town based around the excavation of a fictional place called Fossura. The game gives you all the fun of a real archaeological excavation without getting your hands dirty.

Yes, Roman Town is designed for children, but don’t let that dissuade you. As a parent, you should have fun playing along with your child. I know I had a blast with this and really had to peel myself away from the computer.
The kids had a lot of fun playing this game. Normally there is a battle over who gets to go first and how long to set the timer. Roman Town was nice, because my daughter read instructions and descriptions to my son as he played, so they both felt involved at the same time (not to say that my daughter didn’t want a turn at the computer)…I would recommend it for any child that had an interest in archaeology or any classroom that needed an technological tie-in to what they were discussing.

Roman Town by Dig It! Games is a fun, unique and interesting computer game developed by professional archeologist, Suzi Wilczynski to bring awareness of archeology (the study of ancient people, their artifacts and culture) to any child via the computer…. Roman Town can make an excellent beginning for a unit study of Roman times….. With a bit of thought and creativity, an entire year of unit study could be developed using Roman Town as the starting point.

Roman Town: The Premier Archaeology Video Game for Kids 2010. Dig It! Games. 978-0-98452-790-8. Grade 3 & Up K-5 6-8 Need a way to make Latin class more interesting or ancient history more intriguing? This video game does exactly that. Players are taken through a short introduction to the archaeological dig and their role as excavator. At the site, a town covered by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, there’s a dig with six levels. In each level, players choose tools, help uncover artifacts, and learn more about their uses with the help of ancient and modern characters. Once uncovered, artifacts are sorted and more information is given. Mini-games are unlocked as portions of a house are excavated. Quizzes at each level test learning with activities such as word seek, term match, and true-false. The game is fun and interesting, and even high schoolers and adults can enjoy it and learn from it. Currently available for Windows OS, a Mac version is coming. The game is a fun way to learn about archaeology and history at home, in class, or at the library. Recommended.
